VERSES OCCASIONED BY SEEING A GROTTO BUILT BY NINE SISTERS.
So much this building entertains my sight,
Nought but the builders can give more delight
In them the master piece of nature's shown,
In this I see art's master piece in stone.
O! nature, nature, thou hast conquer'd art;
She charms the sight alone, but you the heart.

These should be men of knowledge, whose souls are enobled
and enlarged by an extensive acquaintance with those
sciences and arts, which the penetrating geniuses of the
literati have unfolded to the world. Thus and thus only can
they become wise, (for even Solomon himself obtained wisdom
in this way,) but wise they must be in order suitable to
teach, instruct, lead, and give laws to others.

specifically Dartmouth, signed] Philomathes.
